  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

George Hurt of Gilford seeks State Senate seat in District 4

George Hurt, a Republican and longtime Gilford resident, is running for the State Senate seat in District 4.

Hurt is the founder of Hurt and Forbes Insurance Agency of Laconia, a well-recognized insurance agency throughout the state. After successfully managing his company for more than 30 years, he sold the insurance company in 1999. Upon the sale of his agency he continued his career as an insurance consultant with a local insurance agency. He also holds a real estate brokers license and is associated with Roche Realty Group of Meredith. Most recently, he completed his Master’s Degree in Law at Champlain College of Burlington, Vt.

Hurt is no stranger to politics, having represented Gilford in the state Legislature for four years. He also served by appointment of the Governor and Council on the state’s Board of Education, the Post Secondary Education Commission, the Education Commission of the States and New Hampshire’s Water Supply and Pollution Control Commission. In 2000 he was appointed to the state’s Judicial Conduct Commission.

His platform supports less-costly biennial sessions, lower taxes, more transparency in state government, and less regulation. Hurt is opposed to any sales or income tax and    will strongly support a repeal of the new tax on LCCs and the new campsite tax. He will also sponsor legislation to remove the “view tax” or “view factor” as a computing mechanism for property tax purposes.

Equally important, he is opposed to any effort to remove the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. He feels that balancing the state budget with funds from the state’s highway road system is wrong and a bad idea.

“The state should not be raiding the turnpike toll system as part of an effort to balance the budget,” he said.

He further supports the medical malpractice insurance association’s effort in challenging the governor’s attempt to use the insurance trust fund, which belongs to the hospitals and physicians, to balance a bloated budget that is reeling out of control.

He believes that government works best when it promotes an environment in which businesses can thrive. The state should focus on job creation by encouraging business to locate in N.H. with tax incentives, not by discouraging business or individuals with taxes that remove incentive to entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, he believes state employees should not be held hostage to confiscatory spending habits by the legislature and governor. He will work to create a reasoned and sound policy which all state employees can support.
“Let’s restore financial sanity to the state budget,” Hurt said.
